Become a Business Scientist

There’s no one-size-fits-all map leading you to where “X” marks the spot for your coaching business’s success.

If growing a thriving business were as simple as following a preplanned path to the buried treasure of money, success, and freedom, then a LOT more people would be entrepreneurs.

In fact, if landing on the “X” was that straight-forward and guaranteed, you would have already arrived. You would have already quit your day job. And you would have already purchased that tropical island that you’ve had your eye on for quite some time.

Alas, there is no map. There are no guarantees. And, most importantly, there is no “X”.

So instead of constantly searching for this mythical map, it’s time to start thinking about your business in a different way…

Your coaching business is an ongoing experiment…not a destination. And…

You are the head scientist of that experiment.

Like a scientist, your job is to test different approaches and methods in your business to discover what works, and to find out what doesn’t work. Then you can use this knowledge to discover the right formula that leads you to your desire results.

Keep in mind though that, typically, you’ll learn what doesn’t work before you figure out what does. But that’s just the nature of a good experiment.

Thomas Edison said, “Hell, there are no rules here – we’re trying to accomplish something.”

There are no predetermined rules or guideposts marking the “correct” path when you’re experimenting with your business. You have to make your own rules…draw your own map. And that takes hard work, determination, and an undying passion for what you do.

Like Edison, you have to have an experimenter’s mindset. A successful scientist never assumes he knows everything he needs to know—he’s constantly researching and learning as much as he can.

Therefore, you have to constantly be open to new ideas, fresh perspectives, and different ways of thinking. You have to be teachable. You have to be flexible in your thinking. Rigidity and close-mindedness won’t get you very far.

Also, from here on out, there’s no need to fear “failure”. Inevitability, you will discover many approaches that don’t work for your business during your “experimentation”, but that’s how it should be. Great scientists aren’t afraid to fail because they know that failure is knowledge…and knowledge is power. All failures become teaching lessons that are transformed into the essential building blocks of your success.

So take on an experimenter’s mindset. Be the scientist of your business and begin to view your business in a new light.

And don’t stop trying until you create something really, really great.
